Refrigeration Industry is Also Making Important Contributions to the Battle Against COVID

MIAMI, FL — July 12, 2022 — (NOTICIAS NEWSWIRE) — More than 170 years ago, a Florida doctor who was inspired by the notion that cooler air temperatures might help with the treatment of yellow fever invented and patented a small mechanical refrigeration machine to cool patients’ rooms.
The machine leaked and Dr. John Gorrie didn’t have the finances to commercialize the machine – that would have to wait for Willis Carrier’s air conditioning system five decades later – but his invention is commemorated in the Gorrie Ice Museum in Apalachicola, and he set in motion what has become a steady stream of innovations in air conditioning and refrigeration.
Now with the COVID 19 pandemic sweeping the globe, the world is once again looking to the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) industry to keep patients healthier and improve the interior environments of hospitals to lessen the spread of disease. Among the innovations are improved filters and systems that draw in more outside air.
With some vaccines requiring super cold temperatures for storage and distribution, the refrigeration industry is also making important contributions to the battle against COVID.
Air conditioning and air quality in hospitals will be among the topics under discussion at RefriAmericas, which will bring together some 1,000 professionals from Latin America and the Caribbean, for a conference and exhibition in Miami on July 20-21.
Innovation is sure to be on display among the booths of 74 exhibitors at the Miami Airport Convention Center.
With rising fuel costs and concern about refrigerants that have high global-warming potential and are destructive to the environment, the industry is transitioning toward more sustainable and efficient HVAC and refrigeration technologies.
“What we’re trying to do is the mitigation scenario,” said Gildardo Yáñez Angli, a refrigeration specialist at Bohn México and a speaker at the conference.
